Back in October, I
made a silly decision. For quite a few years, my youngest daughter
has periodically asked if she could take various different friends to
Lake George for her birthday. With her birthday being in early
November, and most everything in that area being closed by then, plus
considerations for the cost and logistics of taking other peoples
children so far from home, I've always said no way.
For some stupid reason which I haven't figured out myself
quite yet, this year I decided to tell both of the girls that they could
choose up to three friends each, and we would take them all with us to
the Freight Fest at The Great Escape. Since there is no where near
enough room in the Caravan for that many people, this great idea meant
that my mother would drive the Caravan, and I would drive my Maxima.
Of course, when I came up with this idea, less than two weeks before the
planned date of travel, my Maxima was no where near ready for the trip.
In honesty, at the time it had one flat tire, and two that weren't too
far from going flat.
I spent much of the two weeks prior to the trip just going
through the vehicles taking care of things that I had been neglecting
for some time, in order to be reasonably certain that they would be
ready for the trip. Some luck shined down on me in that the girls
didn't each have three friends who could come on the trip. Kaelee
wound up with one friend, Kathryn, and Krystal wound up with two
friends, Valeria and Amber. The morning of the trip, Krystal,
Valeria, Amber, and Steven (my son) loaded into the Caravan with
grandma. Kaelee and Kathryn got the back seat of the Max with
Holly and I. I had hoped to be on the road by 8:00, but we didn't
get going until around 8:30. The trip up went smoothly, and we got
to Lake George right around 11:30. We headed into Lake George
village, and decided to eat lunch at Pizza Jerks. The first mishap
of the day happened there. My mother was the last to enter the
shop, and on her way in she managed to trip over the step, and fell flat
on her face in the doorway. Luckily she wasn't really hurt, just
felt stupid, and we went on. |
