With Christmas just around the corner, and our Christmas greeting on the front page of this website, I thought now would be as good a time as any to go off a bit about political correctness, a concept that has gone WAY too far in my opinion.  Don't get me wrong, I don't think that it is proper to go around insulting people just because you are ignorant of their practices, beliefs, or feelings.  On the other hand though, I don't think that everyone in the USA should be walking on egg shells for fear of accidentally offending someone.
I think it is a sad day when our schools ban Christmas displays for fear of offending those who are Jewish, or Muslim, or practice some other religion.  Likewise, I think it says something horrible about our society when children are banned from displaying the words Merry Christmas on their clothing (pins, hats, shirts etc.), or speaking the words in school.
I'm not Jewish, but I certainly wouldn't be offended if I heard a Jewish person wising someone a happy Chanukah, nor would I be offended if they wished me a happy Chanukah.  It doesn't matter if I'm Jewish or not, I can still accept the wish for a happy holiday.  The same should be true for those who wish others a Merry Christmas.  Christmas is December 25th.  It is a day, just like any other day of the year, and whether you practice Christianity or not, you shouldn't be offended by someone wishing you a Merry December 25th.
I hope EVERYONE in the WORLD has a Merry Christmas, no matter their race, creed, color, OR religion, because regardless of all that, there will be a December 25th, and that is Christmas day, and I hope all have a great day, no matter what religion they practice.
Then, in the new year, I hope we leave this ridiculous political correctness behind us, and deal with something that really matters, like finding a way to keep kids from taking guns to school and shooting up their class mates.  That seems a lot more important to me than making sure kids don't say "Merry Christmas" in school
