Heat That isn't so Hot

I noticed pretty early on that I wasn't getting great heat out of my Maxima.  Initially, I figured it was because of the leak in the radiator.  After I fixed the leak, and filled the cooling system back up, I started getting decent heat again, and figured the problem was solved.  Eventually though,  I noticed that the heat was only really good when I was sitting still, or driving around town at low speeds (less than 30 MPH).  When I was driving at higher speeds, say around 40 or more, the heat got pretty cool.  I then noticed that the temperature gauge was dropping down near the cold end of the scale at higher speeds as well.
While I have not fixed this problem as of yet, I at least think that I know what it is.  I'm guessing that either the thermostat is sticking in the open position, or there is no thermostat in the engine.  I think that I'm just going to try to tolerate the lack of heat until the weather warms back up a bit in the spring, and tackle it then, as I don't really want to mess with the cooling system in the freezing cold.
