The Xplod Stereo Explodes

Let me start by saying that I am NOT blaming this on Sony.  I honestly don't know exactly what happened, though I'm thinking that it had something to do with the alarm system, and / or some shoddy wiring that was done by a previous owner.  A few nights after I bought the car, I was having a slow night at work, and decided to check the lights on the car to see if they were all working.  I went outside, unlocked the car, and turned on the headlights.  When I did, I noticed that the alarm was sounding, but very quietly.  I turned the lights back off, and on again.  The alarm went off when I turned off the lights, and back on when I turned them on.  I turned the lights back off again.  My boss was standing there, and I said "I can't have the alarm going off whenever the headlights are on, that's going to be a big problem."  I then started the car, and turned the headlights back on.  Again, the alarm began sounding, then the lighting on the LCD panel of the Xplod CD player went out with an audible pop, almost like a fuse blowing.  With that, the alarm stopped sounding.
Now, the alarm has not sounded since.  All the other lights in the car seem to work, including the illuminated buttons on the CD player, but the face plate on the CD player has no lighting.  It still plays CD's fine, and the radio works, just no lighting.  I haven't taken the time to check the back of the unit for blown fuses, but I did go through the car's fuse panels and everything is fine there.  I'll post an update after I get the time to look into this more.  I'm hoping that it turns out to just be a fuse, as I would like to put the Xplod in my old Chevy van, and take the Panasonic CD/MP3 head unit from my old van for the Maxima.
